Independently produced documentary “MACKELNIA” gives viewers unprecedented access to a Grinnell Art History Professor’s life- the First Gentleman of Grinnell College, Mackelnia Harris.

Viewers are invited to don their tortoise-shell glasses and step into the life of Mackelnia Harris as he peruses JSTOR for several hours, shops for a pair of bootcut corduroy slacks from L.L. Bean and licks his finger to turn the page of the essay he is grading.

However, there is trouble in the house of Harris. The film reveals Mackelnia covertly indulging in his guilty pleasure: postmodernist art. President Harris doesn’t know about his thesis on Andy Warhol. It’s four hundred single spaced pages. Oh, Mackelnia. You’re really in it now.

The documentary also revealed unsavory details of the relationship between President Harris and her husband Mackelnia Harris. Despite being a married couple, the two seem to lead separate lives: According to the film, President Harris only communicates with Mackelnia through all-campus memos sent from the Office of the President. Their most recent email, entitled “Financial Aid Documents Now to be Organized in Order of Weight (oz)”, only discusses the lengthy deliberation process of the new document management system until the end, when it reads: “Will be in Vegas this weekend with the girls, walk dog while I’m gone. Sincerely, Anne F. Harris, President”. We assume this message was left for Mackelnia.

Though Mackelnia may not have previously been a Slovenian model, he leads a life with some intrigue and has a healed-over ear piercing. You never know what goes on behind closed doors. Be best.
